Seattle had the winning rally in the bottom of the 9th inning with 3 runs on 3 hits. After an out was recorded, Craig Biggio began the Seattle spurt when he cracked a solo homerun (his 2nd of the season). Barry Bonds came to the plate and smashed a solo-shot out of the park (his 2nd of the season). Bernie Williams then laced a base-hit. Craig Grebeck dug into the batters box next, but he struck out. John Olerud stepped into the box and was hit by a pitch. Turk Wendell then uncorked a wild pitch. Dave Nilsson followed and he was walked intentionally to load the bases. Robin Ventura then drew a walk resulting in an exciting win for Seattle and a wild post-game celebration by the home town fans. Both teams finished the game with 4 hits. Steve Kline(1-0) went 1/3 of an inning allowing no runs for the victory. Wendell(0-2) was charged with the loss in relief. He pitched 1/3 of an inning giving up 1 hit and 2 walks. Lou Pinella was in great spirits in his post-game interview. Yet, when asked about his feelings after the thrilling comeback victory, he volunteered, 'I'll tell you this much - it's a darn sight more enjoyable to be in the winning's team's clubhouse after a game like that. I know how my counterpart, Jim Fregosi, feels right now - and it's not very good. As good as it feels to win this kind of game - it feels worse to lose one!'
