Martinez(1-1) simply dominated Pittsburgh. He didn't give up much, just 1 hit and 1 walk in 9 innings lowering his ERA to 1.72. The right-handed Martinez lost his no-hit bid when Tony Fernandez doubled with two outs in the 9th inning. Pittsburgh threatened in the 9th but their rally came up short. The losing pitcher was Randy Johnson(1-1). Despite taking the loss, he whiffed 13 batters in 7 and 2/3 innings. 'Martinez took our guys to school' Gene Lamont said. 'Too bad he doesn't pitch for us - it would make my job a whole lot easier!'
