Pedro Martinez went the distance at Shea Stadium as the powerful New York (NL)
Mets won in their last at-bat beating the Chicago (NL) Cubs by the count of 3
to 2.

New York (NL) won the game with a run in the 9th inning.  After an out was
recorded, A.J. Pierzynski stroked a one-base hit.  Luis Castillo came next
and he drew a walk.  Kevin Beirne then let one slip out of his hand for a
wild pitch.  Andruw Jones got his turn next, but he was a strikeout victim.
Todd Helton stepped into the box and laced a base-hit giving New York (NL)
the win and sending the home town fans into a frenzy.  New York (NL) rapped
out 10 hits for the night.  

The winning pitcher was Martinez(16-0) who allowed 2 runs for the game.
Beirne(0-1) was charged with the loss in relief.
